Free Giveaways

Free giveaways are a kind of promotion that will increase traffic to one's website. Of course, not all giveaways translate into sales for the business. Giving away something of value for free, however, may be more valuable than the item that is given away.

For instance, a company that is actually engaged in branding its company name or product may want to promote some giveaways so that people start talking about the company, bookmark it and come back.

Some giveaways can result in sales, if only a limited number of items are given up for free and if the ones who don't win or given a choice to buy the same item at a discount. Of course, there are a fair number who will be disappointed with this approach and won't buy, but being as transparent at possible about the limited number of items and listing the winners can disperse some of this dissatisfaction.

Some companies offer weekly giveaways, some monthly and some are part of a "random acts of freebies" program. Items that are given away for free with no strings attached will be the most valued in regard to public relations.

Making consumers pay for shipping or have other hidden cost may backfire as consumers will be quick to criticize in blogs, message boards and even the dreaded Ripoff Report. Creating bad public relations is not the intention of any business owner, so make sure that you're giveaways send out the positive buzz for which you are looking.
