Frames and SEO
Frames and the search engines once upon a time did not mix
at all. Things have changed a bit from the old days since
the search engines have become better at crawling and indexing
pages built with frames.
But, there are still some search engines that get confused
by frames, since it appears that each part of a frame is actually
a separate page and must be indexed as such. By indexing each
part of a framed page, the search engines give little value
to the parts compared to the sum of the whole.
So, if possible it is important to avoid frames when designing
web pages. Especially troublesome are iframes when it comes
to crawling and indexing pages. But, times have changed within
the last couple of years and fewer web designers are using
frames now.
Designing websites in CSS and other methods have been the
flavor or choice lately, so primarily newbies or Old School
designers are using frames now.
