Choosing A Hosting Company
Choosing a hosting company may sound like a simple choice.
You pick the cheapest host with the most hard drive space
and bandwidth possible, right? Well, maybe, but there are
also other elements to consider.
Two of the most important elements in choosing a web hosting
company is picking one with a high uptime percentage and one
that offers quality techical support. Why are these elements
more important than bandwidth?
First, search engines need to crawl a page before it can
index it. If a page is constantly down or returning errors
because of the webhost this will be reflected with lower search
engine rankings. Also, choosing a webhost that has banned
websites such as bulk email marketers or adult sites on the
same IP address as your website, could also have an adverse
affect on your website's rankings.
There are webhosts that literally have tens of thousands
of websites on the same IP address. The chances of having
a blacklisted site in this bunch than say a webhost that only
has less than 1,000 sites on the same IP address.
Now, why is technical support so important? If you've ever
had a website hosted with a dubious company, you'll soon realize
the value of quality technical support. When you submit a
ticket to a quality webhost, matters will be handled quickly,
professionally and honestly.
There are some offshore webhosts, or webhosts who have outsourced
their technical support divisions to offshore enterprises,
that do a substandard job. Mind you this is not all but some.
These technical support agents will be frankly dishonest,
delay action and will claim the problem is with the client
rather than the host.
By choosing a reputable webhost with quality technical support,
a website will stay up more often and when problems do occur,
matters will be handled professionally. Why risk your web
business just to save $20 a year? This just simply doesn't
pencil out.
