I don’t vouch for software very often but this recent service is outstanding. It’s a key phrase tool which has a database of millions of key phrases showing the adwords traffic count per month together with the google competition count and other figures.

Inbound links are not all or nothing. Some we have control of and some we don’t. The question is are the search engines smart enough to know which is which?
