Website Submissions

Website submission used to mean submitting one's site directly to the search engines. But, now days this type of website submission is unnecessary for sites that have a least one link pointing towards it. If a website has a link pointing towards it from another website, chances are that the search engines will quickly crawl that link and index that site.

So, website submission has taken on a different meaning. It can mean submission of a particular site to directories, message boards, blogs and other resources as part of a link-building campaign or perhaps even submission to potential link partners in a reciprocal link trade.

Those who do website submissions to directories would do well to do so manually rather than with an automatic program. In order to speed up the process, several years ago, many web developers designed programs for automated website submissions to a large list of directories.

After a while, the webmasters to these directories became overwhelmed with submissions and stop accepting new links or took steps to cut down on automated links. Manual submissions are seen as more authentic in that a person can pick out the appropriate category for each individual directory that a link will fit well in.

Directories like DMOZ will even penalize too frequent submissions by making the newest submission overwrite the older submissions, so that the age of the link in review may not seems as long compared to other links. Penalties from other directories will including tossing out links altogether that are submitted too often.

So, manual website submissions are definitely the way to go. So, get going and link away.
